Wastewater monitoring is a powerful, population-level tool for understanding public health in real time. By combining advanced data collection, analytics, and reporting, it provides early insight into emerging trends - often before they are visible through traditional systems. One Yukon's Canadian Wastewater Intelligence Platform (Can-WIP) integrates monitoring of respiratory pathogens, Substances of Potential Abuse (SOPAs), and other emerging health threats - such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR) - transforming complex data into clear, actionable intelligence. Results are analyzed in collaboration with the University of Calgary’s Advancing Canadian Wastewater Assets (ACWA) laboratory and the Public Health Agency of Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory (NML). Grounded in strong data governance and aligned with OCAP® principles, Can-WIP supports responsible data use while strengthening early warning capacity and informed decision-making.
